QR-Code Scanning App

Scanning Tips

Scanning Tips

·         This application is designed to scan 2D barcodes (QR-Codes and Data Matrix).

·         Glare and shadows on the barcode will cause scanning issues.

·         Scan within 3-5 inches of the barcode.

·         Keep the barcodes and your device relatively still.

What can I do if the app won’t scan?

·         Select ‘Manual’ to manually enter the barcode value and then submit it.

Manual Entry

When should I manually enter the serial number?

·         Sometimes the camera can’t read a particular QR-Code, due to glare, damage to the code, or poor lighting conditions. In either case, you can submit the codes through ‘Manual entry’. It is always recommended to try using the ‘Scan’ option first and ‘Manual entry’ only as a backup.

How to manually enter codes?

·         Select ‘Manual’ from Scan page.

·         Enter the codes and submit.

·         A result screen will show the submitted data and corresponding response.

What is the Database used for?

·         Databases are used to check the validity of submitted codes. When using a Database the scanned code is compared to a database of codes stored on-device. If that code matches a code in the database it is considered ‘valid’. If it doesn’t match then it is considered ‘invalid’.

·         The service used by Prysmian is an on-device database Service. This means that you will be prompted to download the database and it will be stored on the device itself. In this way you can scan and validate barcodes without immediate wireless network services (eg. 3G, 4G) or Wi-Fi access. This setting enables barcode validation even in areas where no wireless network is present. Barcodes submissions will then be uploaded to the server once a wireless connection is established, provided the app is still running.

Database

Do I need to download the database to my device more than once? If so, how often?

·         Databases might be updated to reflect current data regularly. Databases should update automatically with no need to download newer versions. Users will be informed in case a database needs to be manually downloaded.

Internet Connections

Internet Connections

·         Each time you enter your username and password the app downloads your list of services. If you don’t have internet connectivity, you will be able to use the Services saved on your device from the last time you had connectivity.

·         When connectivity is restored, you may sign back into the app to refresh your list of Services and to upload your saved scans.

I don’t have a stable Internet connection – can I still scan?

·         Yes. If you don’t have Internet connectivity when you are trying to sign in or if it’s lost while you are scanning, you’ll be prompted to use the app in offline mode. All scans will automatically be saved to the device. You can upload those scans when connectivity is restored.

·         If you have connectivity but it is too slow, you may save scans on-device by unchecking the ‘Scan Online’ check-box located on the scan result page or in Settings. If connectivity is restored you can check the ‘Scan Online’ check-box and also upload the scans saved on-device from the Settings page.

How do I know if I have saved scans to upload?

·         Select a Service after signing-in to the app and then check the Settings page.

Uploading Saved Scans

How do I upload saved scans?

·         You will need to upload your saved scans from the device to the online servers when you have connectivity.

How to upload saved scans?

For Android, iPhone and Blackberry OS 6.0 users:

·         Select the ‘Service’

·         Open the ‘Settings’ page

·         Select ‘Upload Scans’

·         Wait for a pop-up message indicating a ‘Successful’ upload.

Auto Sign-In / Remember Me

What does Auto Sign-In do?

·         This setting stores your username and password in the app so you do not have to re-type it in each time you launch the app.

When should I enable Auto Sign-In?

·         It is recommended you enable it unless you are concerned about others using the device without your permission.

Auto Next-Scan

What is Auto Next-Scan?

·         In this mode the camera automatically opens after each scan unless the scan is invalid.

When should I use Auto Next-Scan?

·         Use it when you need to scan barcodes in rapid succession without touching any keys.

How do I enable Auto Next-Scan?

·         You can enable it from the Settings page. The setting is saved and will remain enabled for all your Services until you disable it.
